While it’s true, that the world can seem pretty screwed up at times, there’s one little pet peeve I have when it comes to food and nutrition. It surely seems, that somebody messed things up pretty badly, when everything that tastes good is bad for you, and everything that tastes bad is good for you. How exactly did this happen? Could the big guy upstairs really have messed up so badly. Or maybe, it was human persaverence that shifted this balance.
With obesity rates as crazy as they are in this country, it’s not surprising that even the big junkfood manufacturers are getting together to discuss the problem. Basically though, all they really did was talk about it. It happened over 10 years ago, around 1999, and given the current statistics it doesn’t seem like things have gotten all that much better. There were comparisons drawen between fast food manufacturers and the mighty tobacco industry of a few years ago. It didn’t go over very well. But it does sort of make sense. Are the ills and health care costs associated with tobacco-related diseases any worse than those related with obesity?
Those in the processed food industry obviously don’t want talk about this, or have those kind of comparisons made. Personally, I’d like to see more of that in the press these days. The problem is most consumers like foods that are cheap and easy. Junkfood pretty much fills that bill. While it’s true people have a choice, we all know how difficult willpower can be when it comes to nasty comfort foods. There’s not much will power involved when it comes to saving money at Canadian Pharmacy.
With all the dollars, resources, and power behind them, it’s hard to imagine the process food industry doing any thing to really help with the current healthcare crisis. I suppose though, it’s just a matter of time until they go the way of the tobacco giants. At one time they were were considered untouchable as well.
